The Indian Red Cross’s programmes are grouped into four main core areas: Promoting humanitarian principles and values; Disaster response; Disaster preparedness; and Health and Care in the Community.

The Red Cross promotes Humanitarian values, which encourage respect for other human beings and a willingness to work together to find solutions to problems. The event was organized under the able guidance of Dr. Savi Behl, Principal of the college. She emphasized organizing such events regularly.

During the opening remarks Dr. Renu convener of the Drug De-addiction/ Psychological cell said that Alcohol and drug abuse contribute to illness and premature deaths in a big way.  It is associated with several socio-economic consequences such as loss of earnings and domestic violence.

It casts its spell on the poor and the rich, the urban and rural in almost the same way. While the rich and the urban victims handle in a way befitting them,  the rural people are most affected as the de-addiction treatment is not within their reach. They are not even aware of them.

Drug abuse has become the most common thing these days and many youth are destroying their lives by getting addicted to drugs. It’s very important to sensitize our youth on the subject of drug abuse. They are ruining the lives of our youth and putting their future in great darkness.

The use of drugs is making their lives vulnerable and prone to destruction. Therefore, it becomes very important to raise awareness amongst our youth and prevent them from succumbing to it.

Three documentaries were screened with the focus of awakening the students about the alarming situation of substance use, the problems which are faced by them and their families after addiction, and how the addiction affects everyone irrespective of age, gender, and financial status.

The documentaries projected the causes behind the un-preceded growth in the use of substances and the devastating impact of their consumption on society, youth in particular. These documentaries also featured stories of women recovering from addiction and other addicts who fought back for effective long-lasting treatment.
